Irish Foreign Minister: Window of Opportunity for Nuclear Deal Will Close Very Soon

Simon Coveney, Ireland’s Foreign Minister and the UN Security Council’s Coordinator for the Revival of the JCPOA, announced that if an agreement is not reached to bring Iran and the United States back to the nuclear deal, the opportunity will be lost very quickly.

Ireland’s Foreign Minister, who serves as a facilitator in the nuclear negotiations, announced today, Wednesday, March 18 (March 9), that if an agreement is not reached “very quickly” to bring Iran and the United States back to the JCPOA, the window of opportunity will close.

According to Simon Coveney, “achieving success requires that this be done urgently.” He believes that otherwise, “a golden opportunity will be lost.”

On the other hand, Mohammad Reza Ghaebi, Head of Iran’s Permanent Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, during a speech at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, emphasized that Iran, as a responsible NPT member state, is committed to implementing its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA).

He added: “The report of the IAEA Director General reflects progress made in addressing safeguards issues previously reported to the Board of Governors, and this progress is the result of mutually constructive cooperation between Iran and the Agency.”

On Tuesday, March 17 (March 8), diplomats from Britain, Germany, and France issued a joint statement at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna, rejecting Russia’s latest demands for reviving the Iranian nuclear agreement.

The European countries warned that the proposed solution being negotiated in Vienna cannot remain on the table indefinitely given the progress of Iran’s nuclear program, and the opportunity for agreement is running out.
