Limbo Status of ‘Nasimeh Eslamzahi’, Security Detainee in Evin Prison

“Nasimeh Eslamzahi,” a Sunni security detainee, continues to languish in limbo in the women’s ward of Evin Prison.
Forty-year-old Nasimeh Eslamzahi was arrested in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in September 2023 along with her husband and one-year-old child. According to reports released by security forces, they were carrying weapons at the time of arrest.
Ms. Eslamzahi and her husband were charged with membership in the militant ISIS group at the provincial prosecutor’s office in Sistan and Baluchestan, and were subsequently transferred to Evin Prison.
Ms. Nasimeh spent three months in one of the solitary confinement cells of the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison, and spent another three months in multi-person cells at this detention facility. She was transferred to the women’s ward of the prison on March 5, 2024.
Nasimeh’s husband is being held in one of the multi-person rooms in the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison. The couple has had no contact or in-person visits with each other to date, and no court hearing on their charges has yet been held.
It is worth noting that their one-year-old daughter Aisha was transferred to an unknown location following their arrest. During interrogations of Ms. Nasimeh, she was told that her daughter had been handed over to a Shiite family. She was pregnant with her second child at the time of arrest and will soon give birth in prison, but the couple continues to remain in limbo after the passage of months.
