Jordan Develops Tourism Industry to Attract Christian Pilgrims

The Jordanian government, with its symbolic biblical sites, intends to develop the tourism industry to maximize the attraction of Christian pilgrims.

According to Le Monde, the Association of Leaders of French Catholic Pilgrims held its annual congress in Jordan for the first time in the past eighty-five years. At this congress, Jean-Marie Lovart, Auxiliary Bishop of Bordeaux, was also present and said in the opening ceremony that holding this congress in Jordan is an important event.

He said in the opening ceremony: “Jordan is a country where we can see the footprints of Abraham, the father of our shared faith, Moses, the great prophets, and John the Baptist, the baptizer, and hosting this congress will increase Christian religious tourists and pilgrims to this country.”

King Abdullah II of Jordan invited the Association of Leaders of Catholic Pilgrims three years ago to hold their annual congress in this country to develop religious tourism and maximize the attraction of Christian pilgrims and tourists to Jordan. The mentioned congress was also held in Lebanon, Palestine, and Israel in 2005 and 2011.

Now, the Jordanian government, to develop the tourism industry in its country, has introduced symbolic biblical sites such as “the presumed location of Jesus Christ’s baptism” and Mount “Nebo” to attract Christian pilgrims.
