Roya Hakakian Rejects Council on Foreign Relations Invitation

Roya Hakakian rejected an invitation from the Council on Foreign Relations for a meeting that would include Raisi’s attendance.

Roya Hakakian, an Iranian writer and journalist, was invited by the Council on Foreign Relations think tank to a meeting next month that would also be attended by Ibrahim Raisi. However, Hakakian declined the invitation due to Raisi’s presence at the event.

Roya Hakakian, while pointing out that the meeting in question amounts to political rehabilitation of someone who has committed numerous crimes, added: “The only appropriate venue for dialogue with Ibrahim Raisi should be a court. Providing an important platform at the Council on Foreign Relations think tank to Ibrahim Raisi would only legitimize him and amount to an insult to the protesters who have fought for democracy and have been targets of imprisonment, assault, and execution.”
