Medical Organization Tells Hassan Rouhani: Buy Vaccine with ‘Scientific Approach’

The Medical Organization of Iran, through a letter addressed to Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran, emphasized the “necessity of purchasing coronavirus vaccine with a scientific approach” and warned against “politicization” in this regard.

Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, recently announced that the purchase of “American and British vaccines” is prohibited, an issue that has fueled concerns about the health and lives of the Iranian people.

The Medical Organization of Iran announced on Sunday, December 21 that the priority of vaccine preparation and purchase is a vital and urgent necessity that should be addressed solely based on a scientific perspective and in accordance with national interests, separate from political issues.

The heads of the three branches of the Medical Organization, along with the head of the National Assembly of Scientific Associations, called on the government to make efforts to provide a “safe vaccine approved by scientific authorities.”

Pfizer vaccine, produced by the American company, has received approval from the World Health Organization, and several countries from the United States to Canada, the European Union, and some Arab countries and Israel have begun vaccinating their populations.

The letter states that today the most important issue in the field of health globally is a “correct, scientific and prudent” confrontation with the coronavirus pandemic, and the only way to overcome and break the chain of this deadly disease is the rapid provision and use of a “suitable and effective” vaccine.

Senior medical officials have said that many countries in the region and around the world have begun vaccinating against COVID-19, and even some countries in the region have vaccinated a significant percentage of their populations.

Among countries in the region, Israel has vaccinated nearly two million of its people with the Pfizer vaccine.

The letter states that the scientific stages and mass production of domestic vaccine will not soon be on track.
