“Alomolhoda” Insists on Execution of Iran’s Boxing Champion Behind Closed Doors of Mashhad Revolution Court

“Ahmad Alomolhoda,” Khamenei’s representative in Razavi Khorasan, is insisting behind the scenes at the Mashhad Revolution Court on the execution of Iran’s boxing champion.

“Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani,” a 27-year-old boxer from Mashhad, is one of those detained during the November 2019 uprising. He was arrested in February 2019 and charged with “corruption on earth” through “intentional burning and destruction of specific places including Ahmad Alomolhoda’s office and a government punitive building,” but this political prisoner has rejected the charges.

Among his other charges are participation in the November 2019 protests, protesting against the downing of the Ukrainian plane, and propaganda against the system.

Babak Paknia, Mohammad Javad’s defense lawyer, wrote in a tweet: “The ruling of the Second Branch of the Islamic Revolution Court in Mashhad regarding Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani was notified to lawyers on Monday, July 24, and this branch, despite the reasoning of the Supreme Court branch, again insisted on issuing an execution sentence.” He also emphasized that within the legal deadline, we will again file an appeal petition.

Regarding the reissuance of the mentioned ruling, 85 human rights defenders and international non-governmental organizations, including former UN officials and Nobel Prize winners, expressed concern about the possibility of carrying out the execution of Mohammad Javad and, in late July of this year, called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to prevent the execution of this Iranian boxing champion.
