The Connection of “Easter” or “Resurrection Day” of Christians with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Easter is the greatest Christian holiday after the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, which is connected with the resurrection and rising of Jesus Christ.

“Easter” or “Resurrection Day” is one of the holidays on a Sunday when Jesus Christ, after being crucified, rose from the dead three days later. This holiday is celebrated on one of the Sundays in the month of March or April.

Easter or Resurrection Day is dedicated to the last day of Holy Week (Palm Week). The week when Jesus Christ enters Jerusalem as a king and people greet him with palm branches and the cry of Hosanna. On the second day, Jesus enters the temple and cleanses it, and on the following day he teaches in the temple for the last time. On Wednesday, “Judas Iscariot,” who was one of the disciples of Jesus Christ, betrays him and sells his location for 30 pieces of silver. On Holy Thursday, Jesus Christ, along with his disciples, eats the Last Supper, which consists of bread and wine and represents his body and blood. Friday, which is referred to as Good Friday or Holy Friday, Christ, without having committed any sin, travels the path to Golgotha and is crucified. On Saturday, Christ takes the saints from Hades (in ancient Greece the ruler of the dead and the underworld or hell) to heaven, and on Sunday, which is Easter or Resurrection Day, Christ rises from the dead.

According to the New Testament Gospel, Jesus Christ was crucified two days before “Passover” or “Pesach” and on the third day he overcame death and rose from the dead. After his resurrection, Christ lived for 40 days alongside his disciples on earth and then ascended to heaven.

The death that Jesus Christ endured for the forgiveness of human sins was death on the cross, which was considered the worst form of execution at that time. In this type of execution, which is the worst and most cruel form of death, a person who is crucified sometimes suffers for days until he dies on the cross. They would also break the knee bones of crucified individuals so they could not use them as a seat and assume a sitting position to breathe a little. For this reason, when their knees were broken, they no longer had the strength to do so and died from suffocation. However, Jesus Christ not only did not break any of his bones, but after enduring six hours on the cross, he surrendered his spirit to God the Father.

The day after the crucifixion, his body was placed in a tomb and the door of the tomb was sealed, but Jesus Christ overcame death and rose from the dead. His empty tomb showed that Jesus Christ is the living God who came to earth for the forgiveness of human sins, and by going to the cross, he took upon himself all the sins of mankind, and after three days after his death, he rose, and this day was called Easter or the Day of Resurrection of Christ.

Resurrection Day is the greatest holiday after the celebration of the birth for Christians. On this sacred day, the saints go to church for worship and celebration with joy. Christians observe special customs for this day, and in homes they are also engaged in celebrations and feasting. The most important food of Easter, which is lamb meat and refers to Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God, is prepared, and one of the most common customs on this day is the coloring of eggs, which is a symbol of birth and eternity.

On this day, people called Easter Bunnies, who usually wear rabbit costumes, hide colored Easter eggs in secret places, and children who participate in the ceremony search for the eggs, place them in baskets, and finally distribute them among the people. Many members of the Jewish community also celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ simultaneously with the Passover festival celebrations.
