Islamic Republic Executes One Person Every 14 Hours

According to reports from a research center, the Islamic Republic executes one person every 14 hours.
The research center “Iran Open Data” reported a 24 percent increase in executions by the Islamic Republic, according to a report.
According to this database, since the beginning of the current year (2023), compared to the average of the past fifteen years, Iran has executed one person every 14 hours. This execution rate during the period between 2008 and 2022 was reported as “one execution every 17 hours,” but since the beginning of 2023, this execution rate has reached “one execution every 14 hours.” This figure is based on the number of executions carried out by the Islamic Republic since the beginning of 2023. The number of executions has been reported as 113 people, which is the highest level of executions in the past eight years.
According to Iran Wire news agency, the research center “Open Data” published a chart from its report showing that the highest execution rates were in Tehran and Alborz provinces, West Azerbaijan, Razavi Khorasan, and Sistan and Baluchestan, respectively.

The number of executions in Iran increased following the popular uprising. Protesting citizens who took to the streets seeking justice have been charged with “corruption on earth” and “waging war against God” by the Islamic Republic government, with execution sentences issued against them, many of which have been carried out.
According to human rights organizations, Iran is the second country after China in terms of the high number of executions in the world.
