Continuation of Professional Protests in Iran: Retired Homa Airline Employees and Nurses Hold Protest Gatherings

Following the widespread strike by daily wage and contract workers in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, various groups and professions continue to hold protest gatherings in different Iranian cities demanding attention to their professional and labor demands.

Based on videos circulated on social media, on Tuesday, July 6, nurses and healthcare workers of the Social Security Organization gathered in front of the central building of the Social Security Organization to protest the non-implementation of their labor demands.

Protesting nurses are demanding the Administrative Justice Court review their request to invalidate regulations that restrict the Social Security Organization from allowing early retirement payments.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that emergency service contract workers from at least five centers have not reported for duty for several days in protest of wage arrears, their working conditions, and not being vaccinated against coronavirus.

According to ILNA news agency, these workers, despite going on difficult missions and being in contact with different people daily, have still not received coronavirus vaccines.

A group of retired employees and pilots from Homa Airline also gathered in front of Parliament today with slogans, demanding attention to their retirement payment situation.

Several maintenance workers of Tehran Metro Line 5 held a protest gathering for the nth time on Tuesday, July 6, in front of Karaj metro station.

These protest gatherings are taking place in various Iranian cities as previously, following support from political and civil activists and professional unions inside and outside the country for strikes by various professional groups in Iran, a number of scientific, cultural personalities and civil and political activists in recent days issued a statement supporting nationwide worker strikes.

The signatories of this statement, while supporting nationwide worker strikes, emphasized the necessity of struggle for the creation of independent workers’ organizations instead of fake organizations dependent on the government.
