Switzerland Implements EU Sanctions Against Iran

According to BBC, the Swiss government has decided to implement European Union sanctions against Iranian institutions and officials in connection with sending drones to Russia; however, it will not do so regarding sanctions related to the suppression of protests.

In a statement by the Swiss government, it was stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance have decided not to implement the European Union sanctions related to the ongoing protests in Iran.

The Swiss government says that “all of Switzerland’s domestic and foreign interests” were considered in making this decision. Switzerland condemned the use of force by Iran’s security forces in this statement. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union and had previously announced that it would review the implementation of this union’s sanctions against Iran. (Source: BBC News Agency)

Switzerland has not involved itself in any war to date. But does this country’s decision not to support sanctions related to the suppression of protests relate to the foreign currency resources that belong to the Islamic Republic and are held in Swiss banks? Is the threat that endangers the integrity of the Iranian nation important to Switzerland, or has it only considered the interests of its country and people, treating human rights issues as insignificant?
