At Least 9 People Killed in Five Days of Popular Protests in Various Iranian Cities

Five days into protests in various Iranian cities, there is no precise count of deaths, injuries, and arrests. The governor of Kurdistan has confirmed three deaths in the province, and the prosecutor of Kermanshah has reported two deaths in that city.

Radio Farda’s investigations so far confirm six protesters killed. The IRNA news agency has also reported one police auxiliary killed in Shiraz.

Since September 16 when Mahsa Amini, a young woman who died in custody of the morality police, was buried in Saqez, the city of Saqez and subsequently other cities in Kurdistan province and other Iranian cities have been scenes of popular protests.

Protests that, due to violence by special guard forces and security forces and direct gunfire, have resulted in the deaths and injuries of a number of protesters, whose investigations by Radio Farda confirm the identity of six of these killed.

Radio Farda sources say Faridon Mahmudi died on September 28 in the city of Saqez as a result of a gunshot wound.

Radio Farda has also learned that Fouad Qadimi was shot in the city of Divandarreh on September 28. He died on September 30 at Kawthar Hospital in Sanandaj as a result of his injuries.

Mohsen Mohammadi is another protester in the city of Divandarreh who was hit by direct gunfire on September 28, and Radio Farda has been able to confirm his identity.

Reza Lotfi is another protester who was hit by gunfire from special guard personnel on September 28 in the city of Dahgolan, and Farhad Darvishi died in the city of Urmia on September 29 as a result of a gunshot wound.

Zakaria Khial, a 16-year-old teenager, also died on September 29 in the city of Piranshahr due to a gunshot wound.

Beyond these figures, human rights sources report the deaths of other protesters; including the Kurdish Human Rights Network naming Hajar Abbasi, a woman from Mahabad, as one of the killed and announcing that Ms. Abbasi was wounded and died as a result of a buckshot wound to her face.

The network also reported that during protests on Tuesday in Kermanshah, a 55-year-old woman named Minoo Majidi was killed by fire from anti-riot forces.

Radio Farda has not independently been able to confirm these two reports.

Meanwhile, Shahram Karimi, governor of Kermanshah, announced that the two deaths in the province were targeted with unorganized weapons.

The governor of Kurdistan also said on September 29 about the deaths of three protesters in cities of the province that one of them, who was from the city of Divandarreh, was killed with a military weapon. Ismail Zarei-Koushaa, without mentioning the identity of these individuals, said another person under the same circumstances was found in a vehicle near Saqez Hospital, and regarding the third person, he said the matter is under investigation.

Simultaneously, the IRNA news agency reported that during a gathering on the evening of September 29 in Shiraz, three police officers were wounded and one police auxiliary also died as a result of the severity of his injuries.
