Denial of Mohammad Mahdi Karami’s Execution by Mohammad Hossein Aghassi, Judicial Attorney
Mohammad Hossein Aghassi, the court-appointed attorney for Mohammad Mahdi Karami, denied reports of his execution that were supposed to be carried out today.
Mohammad Mahdi Karami, a protester who was arrested during the memorial ceremony for Hadith Najafi and sentenced to death on charges of “corruption on earth,” had his political bail taken over by “Clémentine, a French Parliament representative.”
It is worth noting that Mohammad Hossein Aghassi, a judicial attorney and lawyer in Tehran, had previously announced that he was selected by Mohammad Mahdi’s family to represent him, but the Revolutionary Court did not accept his representation. Mr. Aghassi wrote “trial and punishment without the defendant’s lawyer.” Previously, Mohsen Shekari was executed in a similar situation.
When Ms. “Clémentine” expressed concern about Mohammad Mahdi Karami’s execution in a tweet and asked for help from the French government, Mr. Hossein Aghassi, who had not been granted permission to represent Mohammad Mahdi, immediately announced in a tweet: “The report circulating about Mohammad Mahdi Karami that his death sentence was supposed to be executed Tuesday morning, December 29 (today), is absolutely false. The publication of such reports is causing his family severe distress.”
This news was released while Mohammad Mahdi’s family had submitted a video file to the judiciary requesting forgiveness for their son Mohammad Mahdi and annulment of the sentence. Several news agencies also published reports this morning about the execution of Mohammad Mahdi’s sentence in response to Ms. “Clémentine’s” reaction.
The point here is: how can an attorney who previously announced that he was not granted permission to represent Mohammad Mahdi Karami and has no information about Mohammad Mahdi’s status now deny his execution?
Did the Islamic Republic government, in response to the French Parliament representative’s reaction to the execution of Mohammad Mahdi and the publication of this news, cancel the execution order, or is there another lie and crime hidden behind the regime?
