Number of executions at Bandarabbas Prison increases to two

Hrana News Agency – Early morning on Sunday, September 6, the execution order of a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges was carried out at Bandarabbas Prison. With the inclusion of this prisoner, the number of executions on the previous day at Bandarabbas Prison has increased to two.

According to Hrana News Agency citing Haal-o-Sh, early morning on Sunday, September 6, 2022, a prisoner was executed at Bandarabbas Prison.

The identity of this prisoner has been stated as “Saeid Sabaki, 27 years old, son of Mirdar, married with three children, resident of Mohammad Abad, Iranshahr.”

This prisoner had been transferred on Friday, September 4, to one of the solitary confinement cells at Bandarabbas Prison for execution of his sentence.

According to an informed source in this report: “Saeid Sabaki was arrested in Bandarabbas in 2018 and was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of this city on drug-related charges.”

Haal-o-Sh had reported on the previous day the execution of another prisoner at Bandarabbas Prison. With the inclusion of this prisoner, the number of executions on the previous day at Bandarabbas Prison has increased to two.

At the time of preparing this report, the execution of this prisoner had not been announced by domestic Iranian media or official sources.

Based on the annual report of the Statistics Center, Publications and Works of the Human Rights Activists in Iran during the period from January 1, 2021 to December 20, 2021, at least 299 citizens were executed and 85 others were sentenced to death. Among those executed, mention should be made of the execution of 4 child offenders.

According to this report, more than 88 percent of executions carried out in Iran are not publicized by the government or judicial institutions, which human rights organizations term as “secret” executions.
