City of Mahabad Put Under Red Alert Status

Videos and images circulated on social media networks show a critical red alert situation in the city of Mahabad in West Azerbaijan Province.

Following widespread protests that have taken place across all Iranian cities, the city of Mahabad has found itself in a very dire and alarming situation.

In videos that have gone viral on social media pages, Iran’s armed forces attacked the city with vehicles equipped with military weapons to disperse protesters. Security forces declared martial law with these military weapons, yet this action has only intensified the anger of Mahabad’s people, who now fearlessly take to the streets without hesitation.

The people of Mahabad, disregarding the martial law declared by the Revolutionary Guards, marched toward the Mahabad Police Station 13 and surrounded it.

A young girl in Mahabad also posted a message on social media pages. Her remarks conveyed the following: Security forces shoot at people early in the morning in bread lines to intimidate us. The situation in Mahabad is critical, and even if we wanted to take over all of West Azerbaijan, we would still not be enough, and we cannot do this alone. Please, all major cities, come out of your homes in support of Mahabad. Security forces have deployed their helicopters in this city to frighten us, but we only have stones to protect ourselves. Security forces have attacked people’s cars and homes and destroyed their property. We await your support, dear people of Iran.

The people of Boukan city in West Azerbaijan also took to the streets in support of Mahabad’s residents. However, Islamic Republic security forces attacked homes and destroyed much of people’s property in their houses, including vehicles and household furniture.

The people of Mahabad issued a call and appealed to all cities across the country and Kurdish compatriots to come to the streets in support of Mahabad.
