Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Attacks on Kurdistan Region Leave 13 Dead and 58 Wounded

Iraq’s state news agency reported that the death toll from Iran’s attacks on the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday, September 27, has risen to 13 people, with 58 others wounded.
The Revolutionary Guards targeted positions in Erbil, the center of the Kurdistan Region, and the city of Sulaymaniyah in these attacks.
These attacks took place amid nationwide protests in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of the morality police.
The commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces said on Wednesday that “positions of anti-Iranian terrorists in the depths of northern Iraq’s region” were targeted by drone and missile units of the Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces.
Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour stated: “To date, 73 ground-to-ground ballistic missiles and dozens of attack drones have struck with precision at positions and targets at the locations where terrorists are stationed and operating, resulting in their complete destruction.”
Iran is in military conflict with the PKK organization and the “Kurdistan Freedom Party,” which it designates as “terrorist groups.”
Mr. Pakpour emphasized in his remarks that the Revolutionary Guards’ attacks “will continue until the complete disarmament of anti-Iranian and separatist terrorist groups.”
News sources in Iraqi Kurdistan confirmed that PKK positions around Sulaymaniyah and the Kurdistan Freedom Party positions around Erbil were targeted.
Reza Kaabi, deputy secretary general of the PKK, told Kurdistan 24 website: “Some of the camp buildings have been destroyed.”
According to IRNA news agency, in these attacks, “360-degree precision missiles from the Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces and suicide drones from the organization’s combat units were used.”
A Kurdish activist also confirmed in an interview with Radio Farda that an American of Kurdish descent was killed in these attacks, saying the person was killed during an attack on a refugee camp.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the downing of an Iranian drone on Wednesday.
According to CENTCOM’s statement, at 2:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the U.S. military shot down an Iranian MQ-4C Triton drone that was heading toward Erbil, Iraq and appeared to pose a threat to American forces.
