Three Teachers’ Union Activists Released After Arrest in Fars

On Wednesday, Ordibehesht 15, Mohammad Alishondi, Asghar Amirzadegan, and Hamid Abbasi, three members of the teachers’ union in Fars Province, were released. These union activists had been arrested during a gathering of teachers and cultural workers on Ordibehesht 22 in Fars Province.

According to Hrana News Agency, citing the Coordination Council of Labor Unions of Iranian Educators’ channel, on Wednesday, Tir 15, 1401, three members of the teachers’ union in Fars Province were released.

Based on this report, the identities of these citizens were named as Mohammad Alishondi, Asghar Amirzadegan, and Hamid Abbasi.

These three union activists were arrested during a nationwide gathering of active and retired teachers and cultural workers on Thursday, Ordibehesht 22, in Fars Province. No information regarding the conditions of their release has been made available so far.

Proesting teachers stated their demands as: “Full implementation of the ranking law for active cultural workers and equalization of pensions law,” “Making temporary hired workers, educational service personnel, Nahzat movement teachers, and kindergarten instructors permanent,” “Payment of end-of-service bonuses to cultural workers for 1400,” “Improving livelihoods of service personnel,” “Implementation of Article 30 of the Constitution,” “Release of imprisoned teachers,” “Free and quality education for students,” “Payment of student insurance,” and “Classrooms with a maximum capacity of 16 students.”

Following the arrest of dozens of union activists during this nationwide gathering, the United Nations Secretary-General, in a report covering 13 points, expressed concern over various forms of human rights violations in Iran and called for the release of citizens, including teachers who were arrested for exercising their right to freedom of expression and participating in peaceful assemblies.
