G7 Leaders’ Final Statement: We are Committed that Iran Never Produces Nuclear Weapons

Members of the Group of Seven issued a statement at the conclusion of the group’s summit in Germany, emphasizing that the group is committed to ensuring Iran “should never produce a nuclear weapon.”

In this statement, released on Tuesday, regret was expressed over the fact that Iran did not seize the opportunity presented for the revival of the JCPOA and “despite diplomatic efforts to establish full implementation of the JCPOA.”

The seven wealthy democracies stated in this statement that they are committed to cooperating with other international partners to address “global security threats” that stem from “the escalation of Iran’s nuclear activities.”

The G7 called on Iran in this statement to cooperate fundamentally with the International Atomic Energy Agency. They stated that a “diplomatic solution remains the best path to limiting Iran’s nuclear program.”

G7 countries in another section of this statement strongly condemned what they called Iran’s destabilizing behaviors in the region and called on Iran to halt all ballistic missile-related activities and other weapons development measures under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and other relevant resolutions that contradict those resolutions.

The G7 statement noted that the group welcomed regional initiatives to improve bilateral relations between countries in the region and called on Iran to participate constructively and actively in advancing “peace and security in the Middle East.”

In recent years, Israel has established closer relations with Arab countries, and some reports indicate the willingness of these countries for military cooperation with Israel.

The G7 also expressed serious “concern” about the continued violation of human rights in Iran, including arbitrary detention, and condemned the “increase” in execution sentences in Iran.

Members of the G7 called on Iran in this statement to end the arbitrary detention of “foreign citizens and dual nationals for political purposes.”

They also stated that they support international efforts to hold Iran accountable for the “unlawful downing” of Ukrainian flight PS752.

176 passengers of flight PS752 lost their lives as a result of missiles fired by the Revolutionary Guards on December 9, 2019 (December 30, 2019) in Tehran’s airspace.

The G7 summit will be held from June 26-28 (June 5-7) in Germany, with four European countries—Germany, France, Britain, and Italy—along with Canada, the United States, and Japan comprising the members of this group.
