Amnesty International Reveals: Military Command in Mazandaran Issues “Lethal Force” Orders

Amnesty International, on Friday, the 8th of Mehr, while pointing out that military officials in the Islamic Republic government have issued orders for “brutal” and “lethal” suppression of nationwide protests, called for international community action in this regard.
According to Amnesty International, which says it has obtained an official document, the General Staff of the Armed Forces has ordered the military command in all Iranian provinces to deal “decisively and seriously” with protesters who took to the streets following the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in the custody of the “Guidance Patrol.”
Based on this human rights organization’s information from Iran, the exact same phrases appear in a document leaked from the General Staff of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces as “decisive and serious action” and the exact phrase from the military command in Mazandaran is “ruthless and lethal force.”
This international human rights institution emphasizes that the leaked document can explain the extensive use of live ammunition by Iranian security forces against protesters across the country and why dozens of people were killed on the evening of the 31st of Shahrivar alone.
Amnesty International has stated that it has so far been able to record the names of 52 victims of recent protests since nationwide demonstrations began in Iran on the 25th of Shahrivar.
Amnesty International says the evidence obtained shows that Islamic Republic officials have engaged in brutal suppression of protests through the deployment of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Basij, Law Enforcement Force, anti-riot police, and plainclothes forces.
Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, has also emphasized that without a decisive collective action by the international community, countless other individuals face the risk of death, limb amputation, torture, sexual assault, or imprisonment merely for participating in demonstrations.
This organization calls on the international community to go beyond issuing statements and take practical measures to prevent the killing of more Iranian citizens.
According to Iran’s human rights organization, in the ongoing nationwide protests that began with protests against the death of Mahsa Amini on the 25th of Shahrivar following her arrest by the “Guidance Patrol,” “at least 83 people” have been killed by the Islamic Republic’s security forces so far.
