Dollar Price Approaches 32,000 Toman Channel

Continuing the trend of rising foreign currency prices in Iran’s open market, the dollar’s selling rate on Thursday, June 2, reached 31,850 tomans.

According to reports from websites that track foreign currency prices in Iran, the euro price also increased on Thursday at the time of this report’s publication, reaching 33,930 tomans.

A new round of depreciation of Iran’s currency and rising foreign exchange rates began early this week, and on Monday, May 30, the US dollar reached a rate of 31,130 tomans, which was the highest price since October 2020.

Overall, the dollar rate has increased approximately 25 percent since mid-last year when the Ebrahim Raisi government took office, with the bulk of this increase occurring in the current spring, such that the dollar rate has risen from around 26,000 tomans, with an increase of more than 5,000 tomans, now reaching over 31,500 tomans.

Since the halt of negotiations to revive the Iran nuclear deal, known as the “JCPOA,” between Iran and world powers, and declining hopes for lifting US sanctions, the depreciation of Iran’s currency and the rise in foreign exchange rates have accelerated.
