Iran’s Health Ministry Declares Today a “Day Without Coronavirus Deaths” in Official Statistics

Iran’s Ministry of Health claimed on Thursday that no coronavirus deaths were reported in the country over the past 24 hours.

The Health Ministry’s statistics on coronavirus cases and deaths have always been subject to doubt and criticism, such that statements from some government officials or parliamentary representatives, as well as vital statistics data, suggest that the number of coronavirus victims is likely approximately three times higher than the figures announced by the Health Ministry.

Simultaneously, Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, released a statement on Thursday declaring that “this great achievement was attained under circumstances where our country faced numerous unjust sanctions from certain powers claiming human rights, even regarding imports of vital medicines and necessary health and medical facilities for treating this disease.”

His remarks come at a time when many officials and authorities responsible for drug imports have previously stated that there are no restrictions on importing medicines, particularly coronavirus vaccines, into the country.

Furthermore, the ban on importing vaccines produced by Britain and the United States to combat coronavirus, imposed by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, and consequently, the escalation of coronavirus victims, has drawn widespread criticism.

The claim of passing a day without coronavirus deaths is being announced at a time when, according to statistics from “Worldometer,” which is based on official country data, there are currently nearly 40,000 registered coronavirus cases in Iran, of which 511 are in critical condition.
