A Saudi Official Ruled Out the Possibility of a Meeting Between Iranian and Saudi Foreign Ministers in the Near Future

A Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry official said on Thursday that no meeting between the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran has been scheduled for any foreseeable future.
In a conversation with Reuters, he emphasized that progress has been made in negotiations with Tehran, but it is “not sufficient”.
The Saudi official continued: “Iran must build confidence for the purpose of future cooperation, and if Tehran is willing to reduce tensions in the region, there are several issues that can be discussed.”
Hours before this report, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had said that he might meet with his Saudi counterpart soon in a third country.
Iran and Saudi Arabia, which severed their relations with each other in December 2015, have in recent months, and in conjunction with international powers’ efforts to revive the nuclear agreement with Tehran, begun negotiations with the mediation of Iraq.
