Kohgiluyeh: Water Department Worker Dies After Self-Immolation Due to Unpaid Wages

The head of the Water and Wastewater Department in Charussa District of Kohgiluyeh County, who set himself on fire in front of the department building due to non-payment of wages, died at Shiraz Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

According to Hrana news agency citing ISNA, a water worker from Charussa who had set himself on fire two days earlier in front of the water and wastewater office of Qaleh Raeesi city, the center of Charussa District, has passed away.

Sharmollah Darbam, the district governor of Charussa District, confirmed the news saying: The Charussa water worker who set himself on fire on Monday in front of the water and wastewater department office of Qaleh Raeesi city, the center of this district, has passed away.

He added: This water worker was transferred to Shiraz Burns Hospital for further treatment, and he bid farewell to this mortal world at noon on Wednesday, the fourth of Khordad 1401.

It is worth noting that the reason for this water worker’s self-immolation was cited as delays in paying water workers’ salaries as well as uncertainty regarding the status of employment contracts.

The water worker, named “Saeid Farhadi,” was an employee and water worker of the Water and Wastewater Department in Charussa District of Kohgiluyeh County.
