Arrest of Board Member of Kurdistan Teachers’ Guild Association on Eve of Educators’ Gathering

Informed sources have reported the arrest of Mohammad Reza Moradi, board member of the Kurdistan Teachers’ Guild Association, Sanandaj-Kalatrzan branch, by security forces.

Hengaw website reported, citing these sources, that Mr. Moradi was arrested on the evening of Tuesday, June 24, in front of his home.

The report states that security forces arrested Mohammad Reza Moradi without presenting any court warrant.

The arrest of this education teacher occurred on the eve of a gathering of educators across Iran, which will take place on Thursday. In recent days, the Coordination Council of Iran’s Educators’ Professional Associations, while issuing a call for another teachers’ gathering, has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained teachers.

The council’s statement read: “We declare loudly and clearly that if our colleagues are not quickly and unconditionally released, and if the legitimate and legal demands of Iran’s teachers are not fulfilled, professional protests will continue.”

The statement called on educators across Iran to hold a protest gathering on Thursday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Iranian teachers have repeatedly held peaceful protest gatherings in recent years in protest of their living conditions and the government’s disregard for their demands.

The incomplete passage of the teachers’ ranking plan, the non-implementation of salary equalization for retirees, and the “continuous and systematic” suppression of professional activists, especially security forces’ repression, have been among the main themes of teachers’ protests over the past year.
