Biden: West will respond harshly to Russian chemical weapons attack

Joe Biden, the US President, said in Brussels that Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, wants NATO to collapse. He, who came to Brussels to participate in three important meetings, added: “Putin would prefer to face 30 independent countries rather than 30 allied countries, therefore nothing is more important than maintaining unity in NATO, the European Union, and the Group of Seven (G7).”

Biden also emphasized: “In our view (the United States), Putin has committed war crimes.”

The US President warned Russia that if it uses chemical weapons, the West will respond harshly. He did not provide further details about this harsh response.

Biden also called for Russia’s expulsion from the Group of 20 countries.

The US President entered Brussels on the evening of Wednesday, March 23, to participate in an emergency summit of NATO, the European Union, and the Group of Seven industrial nations on the topic of Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

Biden said NATO’s military presence in Eastern Europe will be strengthened and the harshest sanctions against Russia will be imposed.

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, responded to Biden’s statements in a statement describing NATO expansion as dangerous, saying NATO is consolidating its anti-Russian course and confirms its interest in continuing hostilities by promising more weapons to Ukraine.
