Ibrahim Raisi Calls Price Increases of Essential Goods ‘Unjustified’

Iran’s president called the price increases of essential goods for citizens “unjustified” and said what he termed “market abandonment” has caused public concern.

Ibrahim Raisi said on Sunday, April 8, “The government considers itself obligated to bring peace to society through appropriate measures to regulate the market, oversee it, and also resolve the knots of people’s lives.”.

Ibrahim Raisi described recent price hikes as “unjustified” at a time when Abdolnasser Hemmati, former head of Iran’s Central Bank, said on Sunday that one of the most important causes of inflation and recent price increases is “excessive money printing.”

He added: The thirteenth government printed 142 trillion tomans in the year 1400 of the solar calendar and deserves the title of “supreme money printing sultan.”

With the increase in the price of bread and pasta in Iran, even conservatives and those who supported Ibrahim Raisi’s government on social networks have turned to criticizing the thirteenth government.

Iran’s president emphasized in his Sunday remarks that the government will pay subsidies as living cost assistance to maintain market stability and provide for people’s livelihoods until the time of offering electronic commodity cards..

Concurrently with the rapid pace of price increases for various goods and food items in Iran, the increase in bread prices and its rationing in recent days has caused a wave of concern among citizens.
