70 More Filmmakers Join “Put Down Your Gun” Statement

Mohammad Rasoulof, a renowned screenwriter and director, announced on Wednesday, June 1st, that more than 70 other filmmakers have joined the signatories of the statement “Put Down Your Gun,” thereby expressing solidarity with the people of Abadan while declaring their opposition to all forms of violence.

The names of Masoud Kimiai, Taraneh Alidoosti, Hanie Toosly, Pegah Ahangarani, Marzieh Vafamehr, and Mani Haghighi stand out among the new signatories of this statement.

Close to 100 Iranian filmmakers on the 8th of Khordad issued a statement demanding that soldiers whom they described as having “become agents of people’s suppression” put down their weapons and “return to the embrace of the nation.”

Two days after the release of this statement, Mohammad Rasoulof wrote on his Instagram page that numerous contacts have been made by various institutions with the filmmakers who signed this statement, and they have been asked to withdraw their signatures or speak with news agencies to “discredit” the statement.

Majid Majidi, Jafar Panahi, Leila Hatami, Poran Derakhshande, Reza Dormishian, Mehdi Karampour, Abolhasan Davoudi, Mohammad Rasoulof, Katayoun Riahi, Mostafa Alahmmad, Saman Salur, Alireza Raisian, Behzad Sanatizadeh, Maryam Moghaddam, Ali Mosaffa, and Tahmineh Milani were among the signatories of the statement.
