University of Tehran Students Beaten by Security Guards After Entering Sports Facility

A number of University of Tehran students who intended to use the faculty’s sports facility on Saturday, May 7th, were beaten by “university security.”
According to a statement by the “Student Union Council of the University of Tehran,” a group of male and female students from the Faculty of Social Sciences approached various faculty officials, including the dean, on Saturday to request the key to the sports field, but were met with refusal.
According to some reports, the clothing of female students and the necessity of gender separation were among the reasons cited by officials for their refusal to provide the key to the students.
Following the officials’ negative response, the students entered through a back door, after which a large number of security personnel rushed in and assaulted them.
According to reports, several students were injured in the ensuing altercation, and emergency services were even called to the scene to attend to some of them.
