Multiple Protest Rallies Held by Social Security Retirees in Various Iranian Cities

Hundreds of retirees and pensioners from Iran’s Social Security Organization held protest gatherings on Sunday, March 5, in various cities across Iran.

These retirees are protesting against their living conditions, inflation, the implementation of pension equalization, and the deduction of healthcare costs from their pensions.

Based on videos shared on social media, these protest rallies were held in cities including Tabriz, Rasht, Isfahan, Kerman, Ardabil, Kermanshah, Ahvaz, Qazvin, Arak, and Shush.

“High prices, inflation, the scourge of people,” “Our table is empty, your condition is great,” and “Injustice and oppression is enough, our table is empty” were among the slogans chanted at these gatherings.

“Implementing pension equalization is our rightful demand” and “We will not rest until we get our rights” were among other slogans heard at these rallies.

Reports indicate that police forces in some cities, including Gorgan, confronted the protesters and arrested several individuals.

Simultaneously, a protest rally was also organized by a number of firefighters in Karaj.

Low wages and salaries, insurance conditions, housing problems, and the failure to consider hazardous work conditions in their compensation are among the issues these firefighters are protesting against.

Previously, a group of firefighters held a protest rally on the third day of the month in front of Tehran’s City Hall building, demanding attention to their demands.

In recent months, various parts of Iran have been the site of protest rallies organized by teachers, workers, retirees, and other segments of society.

These rallies, which have largely been held in protest against living conditions and rising inflation in Iran, have in some cases been met with suppression and arrests of protesters by police and security forces.
