Farkhnejad’s Response to Kayhan Newspaper About Ukraine: You Have Shown You Have Neither Religion Nor Honor

Hamid Farkhnejad, a film actor, in response to a recent note from Kayhan newspaper criticizing his action of returning the Moscow Film Festival award, protested the newspaper’s silence regarding the genocide of Uyghurs in China.
He also emphasized on his personal Instagram page that he did not receive any money from this festival.
Mr. Farkhnejad on Monday, 16 Esfand, by sharing a video on his personal Instagram page aimed at condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which he called “brutal,” announced that he is returning the Moscow festival award that he received for the film “The Big Drum Under My Left Foot.”
In response to Mr. Farkhnejad’s action, Kayhan newspaper, which is close to Iran’s Supreme Leader, wrote on Tuesday in a critical note that this actor took such action “to prevent his son’s American green card from becoming invalid” and asked him to “also return the festival’s cash prize of $20,000 in light of inflation rates.”
Mr. Farkhnejad responded to this note on Thursday on his Instagram, writing that he did not receive any money from the Moscow festival and described such criticisms as “personalizing the discussion” and “an old technique” for “diverting from the main issue.”
He also wrote: “You who removed the collar from your Siberian wild animals and sent your hired virtual prostitutes to my page, if you had honor, you would have criticized the genocide of Muslim Chechens by Putin’s masters, you would have taken a stance against China’s genocide of Uyghur Muslims before Chinese masters, you have shown that you have neither religion nor honor!”
Hamid Farkhnejad in 2005 received the St. George award and the trophy for best male actor at the Moscow International Film Festival for the film “The Big Drum Under My Left Foot” about the Iran-Iraq War.
Mahdi Hashemi, a film, theater, and television actor, was another artist who in recent days condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by posting a video.
Despite worldwide condemnation of Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been among a few governments whose officials in similar statements supported Russia’s action and declared the West and America as the main culprit.
