Khomeini’s Household Files Complaint Against Hossein Dehbashi

The household of Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, has filed a legal complaint against Hossein Dehbashi, a history researcher and documentarian, over one of his tweets.

Mr. Dehbashi had posted the famous photograph of Ayatollah Khomeini’s entry into Iran on an Air France flight, which he later deleted hours afterward. In the image, a number of revolutionaries are seen accompanying Mr. Khomeini as he descends the airplane stairs.

Hossein Dehbashi had referenced the fate of these revolutionaries, including Sadegh Qotbzadeh, who was later executed in the Islamic Republic. He also wrote regarding a photograph of Ahmad Khomeini, Ayatollah Khomeini’s son, that his death was due to “excessive consumption.”

According to a report by Iran’s Student News Agency (ISNA), Khomeini’s household has accused Mr. Dehbashi of making “unjust” allegations against Ahmad Khomeini.

The Jamaran website, which belongs to the “Institute for Organizing and Publishing the Works of Imam Khomeini,” also issued a strongly-worded statement accusing Mr. Dehbashi of “lies and distortion,” saying that he suffers from “hardship and deprivation” resulting from “negligence.”

The sudden death of Ahmad Khomeini, the second son of Ayatollah Khomeini, at age 49 spawned numerous rumors. He passed away in the final days of Esfand 1373 (March 1995). Official reports attributed his death to sudden cardiac and respiratory complications during sleep, followed by a stroke.

During his father’s leadership of the Islamic Republic, Mr. Khomeini was his closest associate, and many consider him responsible for some of Ayatollah Khomeini’s important decisions and policies. Ayatollah Montazeri, the dismissed deputy leader of the Islamic Republic, had accused Ahmad Khomeini of playing a role in the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988.
