Leila Hosseinzadeh, Student Activist, Summoned to Serve “Five-Year Prison” Sentence

Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student activist who was released from Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz last week after 26 days of detention on bail, announced on Sunday, December 19, that her five-year prison sentence was being enforced.

Ms. Hosseinzadeh wrote in a tweet that according to the enforcement notification, she must report to Evin Prison within five days from December 18 (the date of the sentence notification) to serve her five-year sentence.

This student activist was previously sentenced to “five years in prison” and “two years banned from cyberspace activities” by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. This verdict was upheld at the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeal.

Her charge in this case was stated as “gathering and conspiracy with intent to act against national security.”

Ms. Hosseinzadeh’s summons came while she had previously been exempted from continuing her previous sentence after receiving a “certificate of inability to endure punishment” from the forensic medicine organization.

Leila Hosseinzadeh was last arrested on the evening of December 7 of this year during a trip to Shiraz with a large presence of security forces. After nearly two weeks of no contact, she announced in a phone call her transfer to the security ward 209 of Evin Prison, but a few days later, she was transferred to Shiraz Central Prison, known as “Adel Abad.”

Ms. Hosseinzadeh was finally released on December 12 on bail in the amount of “one billion and five hundred million tomans” from Shiraz Prison “temporarily” and until the end of legal proceedings.
