Officers Who Beat a Woman Received a Certificate of Appreciation and Cash Gifts

According to Tasnim News Agency, on the order of the commander of Iran’s law enforcement, the Tehran police chief has commended the performance of officers from the fourth police station in the city and awarded them certificates of appreciation and cash gifts.
The performance in question refers to the incident at the Police Park in Tehran’s Pars district, which occurred on the fourth of Tir this year.
In a video of the incident circulated on social media, several police officers were seen beating a young woman and she was resisting arrest.
After the widespread circulation of the video and severe negative reactions to the incident, Hossein Rahimi, the commander of Tehran police, stated that “two law enforcement officers at the park were dismissed.”
Police also attributed the incident to “norm-breaking and collective protest by citizens against the behavior of the girl in question and her friends, as well as their assault on police officers” and announced their arrest.
A day later, however, the police information center announced that the dismissal order for these two officers was suspended pending investigation.
During the same period, although some parliamentarians stated they would lodge complaints with the interior minister and condemned the police conduct, on the 12th of Tir, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the prosecutor general of the country, cautioned the police on the matter and emphasized: “The judiciary will not accept the police surrendering to pressure campaigns.”
The judicial warning on the matter and the broadcast of multiple reports by IRIB against citizens who had gone to the park ultimately resulted in commendation for the officers who had dealt with the young woman and her friends.
