Lapid: Islamic Republic Regime Is Destroying Iran From Within

Israel’s Prime Minister responded to a tweet from his Iranian counterpart. Yair Lapid wrote in a tweet that “the defeated leadership of the regime is destroying Iran from within and the Iranian people should know that the Islamic Republic is the reason for their miserable lives”.
The Jerusalem Post reports that it is not yet clear which statement by Yair Lapid, Israel’s Foreign Minister, angered his Iranian counterpart. Lapid had said a day earlier that negotiations to revive the JCPOA would likely not result in a favorable outcome for Israel.
Lapid had said: “Our assessment is that Iran and world powers want to revive the JCPOA and it appears this will happen soon.”
Israel’s Foreign Minister added: “The Prime Minister, Defense Minister and I have said that we are not opposed to any agreement and a good agreement is good. Focused negotiations are underway about what a good agreement should include. The world, including the negotiating parties, is listening [to Israel’s positions]. From our perspective, the Vienna negotiations will not achieve a favorable result for Israel, but we are constantly striving, with the help of those involved in them, to improve the outcome for Israel.”
Israel’s Foreign Minister emphasized in response to his Iranian counterpart that the Islamic Republic of Iran is unable to destroy Israel.
Hossein Amirabdollahian, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, responded to his Israeli counterpart on his Twitter page by calling Yair Lapid’s statements “confused” and added that it exemplifies the famous Persian proverb that says: “A camel dreams of cotton seeds while sometimes it chews it grain by grain.”
Yair Lapid, Israel’s Foreign Minister, responded on Tuesday, December 14 (January 4) to Amirabdollahian’s tweet, writing: “Iran’s extremist regime threatens to destroy Israel, but like always, it will be defeated in this battle. The defeated leadership of the regime is destroying Iran from within. The Iranian people should know that the I.R. is the reason for their miserable lives.”
Lapid then added in this tweet: “As the Iranian poet Saadi said: ‘Evil by nature cannot become good, for its foundation is evil.'”
The Vienna nuclear negotiations, aimed at bringing Iran and the United States back to the JCPOA following a break of several days for the New Year, resumed on Monday, December 13.
Five nuclear-armed permanent members of the UN Security Council issued a joint statement on December 13, emphasizing that they agree on preventing further proliferation of nuclear weapons.
These five countries say they “deeply believe” that nuclear weapon proliferation must be prevented and will participate in consultations on this matter at a meeting scheduled to be held this year, with France coordinating it.
Nuclear War Has No Winner
Since the signing of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1968 until now, it has rarely happened that the five nuclear-armed world powers have issued a joint statement.
The United States, Russia, China, Britain and France emphasized in their joint statement that a nuclear war cannot be won and therefore should not be started.
The signatories of the statement agree that because the use of nuclear weapons has widespread consequences, such weapons of war “as long as they still exist” should only be used for “defensive purposes, to deter aggressive attacks and to prevent war.”
The five permanent members of the Security Council also emphasized in their joint statement their oversight role in the production and use of nuclear weapons and their commitments under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The Islamic Republic had cited meeting demands such as the complete lifting of sanctions as a condition for the success of these negotiations, which the United States and European countries have found unacceptable.
Some time ago, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative in the Vienna negotiations, said that his country and China had convinced Iran to set aside its maximalist demands to achieve the revival of the JCPOA.
