Israel Attacks Syrian Air Defense Positions Near Damascus

Israel says it has targeted Syrian air defense positions near Damascus. According to Israel, the attack was in response to Syrian anti-aircraft missile fire.

Israel, after striking targets near Damascus, also attacked Syria’s air defense system in the area.

According to France Press, in a statement published by the Israeli military, the attack was carried out in response to anti-aircraft missiles fired by Syria.

Based on the statement, in an operation conducted on the evening of Wednesday, February 9 (20 Bahman), Israeli armed forces targeted several ground-to-air missile launch sites, including radar and missile launchers in Syria.

Israeli media reported that Syrian air defenses became active after Israel’s attack on positions “near Damascus.”

SANA, Syria’s state news agency, citing military circles, reported that Israel’s missile attacks on Syria were launched from “the heights” of the Golan.

According to SANA, one Syrian soldier was killed and five others were wounded in the attacks.

SANA said: “Our air defense engaged with enemy missiles and destroyed several missiles.”

Israel also stated that Syrian anti-aircraft missiles were detonated in the sky.

Since the start of Syria’s civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory, targeting Syrian government positions and its allies, Iran-backed forces, and Hezbollah militia fighters from Lebanon.

In most cases, Israel has stated that these attacks have been in response to actions carried out against it from Syrian territory.
