Father Arrested After His Daughter Killed by Law Enforcement Gunfire

The “Kurdistan Human Rights Network” website, referring to an incident in which law enforcement officers fired on a vehicle on the Tabriz-Zanjan highway, killing a seven-year-old child, reported that following public disclosure of the incident and negative reactions on social media, the girl’s father has been arrested.
According to the report, the shooting incident occurred on December 29th. Law enforcement officers pursued a Peugeot 405 vehicle “due to lack of vehicle documents” and fired 15 shots during the pursuit. The gunfire resulted in the death of a seven-year-old girl named “Mezgin Palang.” In this incident, another daughter of the family named “Falak Palang” was also wounded.
It was previously reported that at the time of the incident, the family’s son was driving and fled due to not having a driver’s license, and officers fired toward the vehicle.
Following this incident, law enforcement transferred the child’s body to Tabriz and handed it over to the family on the second day of Bahman to be buried in the village of Mellah Hassan in Maku. A mourning ceremony for the girl was held on the fourth day of Bahman, and “Kamal Palang, the father of the child killed, was arrested by security forces during the mourning ceremony.”
The “Kurdistan Human Rights Network” website reported that following the shooting incident, law enforcement officers demanded, “under pressure and threats,” that the family of this Kurdish citizen not disclose information about the matter.
