Corona in Iran: Rise in Hospitalizations and Death of Five Children

As daily figures for hospitalized coronavirus patients increase, Iran’s health minister, emphasizing the continuation of the sixth wave for the coming weeks, called for completing vaccination and stopping gatherings. An official from West Azerbaijan has reported the death of five children.

Bahram Einollahi, Iran’s health minister, in his latest response to the escalating number of coronavirus cases, pointed to the presence of the sixth wave and its continuation “for the next two or three weeks,” and emphasized the necessity of completing three doses of vaccination and observing health protocols.

Iran’s health minister on Friday, February 22 (February 11), asked people to complete their vaccination and stop hosting parties and family gatherings. He also said he does not approve of going to restaurants and removing masks.

The secretary of West Azerbaijan’s university headquarters for combating coronavirus also told reporters that five children under five years old in the province have died from coronavirus infection in the past week.

The deputy minister of treatment at the Ministry of Health also told ILNA news agency on Thursday that the current number of outpatient visits has reached 60,000 people, and the daily number of hospitalizations has reached 4,000 per day.

Meanwhile, hospitals and medical centers in recent days have reported a significant increase in the number of outpatient patients and hospitalizations.

Kamal Heidari, deputy health minister at Iran’s Ministry of Health, reported on Wednesday, February 20, the rapid increase in the number of patients infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus in Iran.

Heidari, while calling for public participation in controlling the disease, said that “the preparedness of health and medical centers has increased since the Delta variant,” but the need for public cooperation remains high.

According to the Ministry of Health announcement, the total number of coronavirus deaths in Iran has reached 133,437 people, and the total number of patients has reached 6,761,855 people.
