Tehran Governor Says Capital’s Geography Cannot Accommodate More Migration

Tehran Governor Says: The capital’s geography cannot accommodate more migrants and population growth.
Mohsen Mansouri, during a Thursday, October 28 meeting between members of the Tehran Province Representative Assembly and Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic, said: Tehran’s population has increased by an average of 250,000 people annually, while the capital’s geography lacks the capacity to sustain this growth trend.
According to ISNA news agency report, noting that almost no budget has been spent on environmental protection in Tehran Province over the past two years, he stated: A comprehensive plan must be prepared and implemented not for prohibition but for controlling and directing population movement and organizing migration at the national level.
Iran’s capital faces numerous challenges including housing shortage, severe air pollution, lack of sufficient green spaces, and unpreparedness for natural disasters such as earthquakes.
