Demanding Parents and Mothers Gather at the Grave of Mehrdad Mein-Far, One of the November 2019 Protests Victims

A number of demanding parents and mothers gathered at the grave of Mehrdad Mein-Far, one of the victims of the November 2019 protests, on Friday, the 7th of November, coinciding with the commemoration day of Cyrus the Great, on the anniversary of his birth.

During this ceremony, Iran Elahiari, Mehrdad’s mother, in the presence of a number of demanding mothers, extinguished his birthday candle with the wish for “the freedom of Iran and the destruction of the killers of those who died in November 2019 protests and all those who died in Iran after the 1979 revolution.”

A number of demanding fathers and families of the November 2019 protesters were also present at this ceremony and in similar statements demanded the destruction of the Islamic Republic.

Mehrdad Mein-Far was one of the victims of the November 2019 protests, born on the 7th of November 1987, a chemistry graduate and pharmacy employee.

He was killed on the 26th of November 2019 as a result of a direct bullet wound to his heart by anti-riot forces in Shahriar, Tehran. His father, in a brief opportunity he found to see his body, confirmed fractures to his head from baton blows and scratches on various parts of his body.

The family of Pouya Bakhtiari, another victim of the November 2019 protests, also on Friday evening released a video standing next to a cake with an image of Cyrus the Great, holding photographs of Pouya Bakhtiari, greeting the Iranian nation on the commemoration of Cyrus.

Pouya Bakhtiari was one of the victims of the November 2019 protests in Mehr City, Karaj, who was shot in the head by security forces and died. His father is currently in prison following his continued protests.

The November 2019 protests, which initially were a reaction to a sudden increase in gasoline prices, quickly changed direction and targeted the Islamic Republic government. However, these protests were met with severe suppression by military and police forces.

Iran’s Interior Minister had previously said that between 200 to 225 people were killed in these protests, but Amnesty International announced the details of 307 victims and emphasized that the number of deaths could be much higher than this number. Reuters news agency also mentioned the death toll at around 1,500 people.

Meanwhile, Saeid Afkari, brother of Navid Afkari, on Friday, the 7th of November, tweeted that his parents were arrested by 15 security forces while carrying a birthday cake with an image of Cyrus, and were released an hour later.

Navid Afkari, a former wrestler, was arrested following his participation in the August 2018 protests and was accused of killing a security guard. Despite numerous ambiguities raised by his lawyers and despite international campaigns against his execution, he was executed on the 22nd of September and secretly buried.
