Reza Pahlavi: Easing Sanctions Against Islamic Republic is Immoral

Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, in a new message referring to the plot to abduct Masih Alinejad, called for the continuation of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Wednesday in a statement that a four-member team affiliated with Iran’s intelligence apparatus attempted to abduct Masih Alinejad, an Iranian-American civil activist, from New York, but the plan was thwarted.

Reza Pahlavi wrote in a message on social media, referring to this news: “The Islamic Republic has spent 42 years trying to eliminate the democratic opposition through intimidation, extortion, kidnapping and assassination. Fortunately, Masih Alinejad and other targets of the regime in the recent plot are alive and safe, but many opponents, activists and journalists continue to be systematically targeted.”

He added: “Easing sanctions, despite the fact that the regime itself constantly reminds everyone of its demonic nature, is not only unreasonable but also immoral. It is a conscious and deliberate collaboration with a criminal, illegitimate and usurping regime in its endless war against Iranians and the principles of human rights and democracy.”

Iran’s last heir to the throne considered reducing sanctions against the Islamic Republic a “weak policy” that “encourages other rogue regimes to commit more terrorist acts.”

The Joe Biden administration in the United States has recently pursued several rounds of indirect talks with Iran aimed at removing some sanctions in exchange for promised greater transparency regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
