Israel’s Foreign Ministry has deemed the dispatch of a senior diplomat by the European Union to attend Ibrahim Raisi’s inauguration ceremony as an incorrect decision stemming from a failure to recognize the sensitivity of the moment.
Israel believes that the presence of an EU representative at the inauguration ceremony lends legitimacy to “state terrorism in Iran.” Israel’s Foreign Ministry was referring to the attack on Thursday, July 29, on the tanker Mercer Street, which resulted in the deaths of two European citizens.
The European Union intends to send Enrique Mora to Iran to attend Raisi’s inauguration ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled to be held on Thursday, August 5 (14 Mordad).
Enrique Mora is the European Union’s representative in negotiations related to the revival of the JCPOA in Vienna. Israel’s Foreign Ministry has stated that sending a representative by the European Union to Iran means legitimizing Iran’s aggressive approach.
Israel has requested that the European Union cancel Mora’s trip to Iran. A spokesperson for Israel’s Foreign Ministry described the dispatch of a senior representative by the European Union to the inauguration of the “butcher of Tehran” as a sign of the union’s misunderstanding of the situation.
