Municipal Officials ‘Beat’ Workers Building New Space for Coronavirus Patients at Tajrish Hospital

The director of Shahday-e Tajrish Hospital says that “Tehran Municipality officials” have prevented the construction of a new space in Shahday-e Tajrish Hospital for coronavirus patients.

Reza Jalili Khoshnou told ILNA news agency on Wednesday, July 23, that municipality workers “clashed” with hospital construction workers and “with very bad conduct, both took away building equipment and assaulted the construction workers”.

According to the director of Shahday-e Tajrish Hospital, during the fifth wave of coronavirus, the hospital’s capacity has been completely filled and “we are currently facing a bed shortage for accepting patients. For this reason, we were working around the clock to prepare the hospital to accept more patients”.

Tehran Municipality has not yet responded to this news.

Mohsen Hashemi, head of Tehran City Council, said on July 20 that coronavirus disease is spreading in Tehran and “the fifth disaster wave” has occurred.

According to him, “the death toll in Tehran is gradually approaching 100 people per day”.

The director of Shahday-e Tajrish Hospital said that due to the municipality’s conduct, the hospital’s completion work for the health of city residents remained incomplete, while “the municipality should protect the city and its people and instead of supporting the construction of new space for coronavirus patients, has opposed this action”.
