US Denies Lifting Some Iran Sanctions

Reuters reported the U.S. State Department spokesperson as saying: “Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.” Mahmoud Vaezi had stated that an agreement was reached on lifting oil and Leader’s Residence sanctions.
While Mahmoud Vaezi, head of the Presidential Office in Iran, announced on Wednesday, June 22nd that an agreement was reached to lift oil and shipping sanctions by the United States, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said: “Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.”
Vaezi had also stated that in Vienna negotiations, which were suspended last Sunday, an agreement was also reached on lifting sanctions against individuals and entities related to the Leader’s Residence of the Islamic Republic.
According to Reuters, the U.S. State Department spokesperson said that until all issues are resolved, no agreement will be reached.
Speaking on condition of anonymity to Reuters, the official said: “During negotiations on complex issues, negotiators try to draft a text that covers the main topics, but I must emphasize again: Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.”
The U.S. State Department has not yet formally responded to Vaezi’s statements.
The foreign ministers of Germany and France also previously noted the difficulty of Vienna negotiations. Heiko Maas, Germany’s foreign minister, said in a joint press conference with his American counterpart that despite step-by-step progress in Vienna talks, discussions continue to face multiple obstacles.
Frank Ristier, assistant to France’s trade minister, also stated: “If negotiations do not progress, we must make difficult decisions in the coming days or weeks.”
Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to the White House, also said on Sunday (June 20th) that there is still a “significant distance” to reach sanctions relief and nuclear commitments that Iran must uphold.
