Lawyer Reports Another Female Prisoner’s Case of Sexual Harassment and Torture by Interrogators in Iran

The lawyer of «Sepideh Kashani,» one of imprisoned environmental activists in Iran, stated that his client experienced issues similar to those mentioned by environmental activist «Niloofar Bayani» in her letter during the investigation process. Yesterday, Niloofar Bayani described her interrogation process in these letters as involving «torture and sexual threats.»

Kazem Hosseini, regarding Niloofar Bayani’s letters pertaining to interrogators’ conduct during the investigation of her case, said: «I cannot comment on Ms. Bayani, but my own client both submitted written accounts of these matters to the court and stated them verbally, and I, as her lawyer, presented all of this in writing in the motions I submitted to the court, and there are certain incidents that occurred which completely undermine the basis of the investigation.”

This judicial lawyer, in response to whether those matters were similar to the issues mentioned in the letter attributed to Niloofar Bayani, said: «It was something similar to these issues, as these were typically common issues occurring during investigations.”

Previously, letters from Niloofar Bayani, one of the imprisoned environmental activists, were delivered to several Islamic Republic officials through BBC media, in which Ms. Bayani described «the most severe psychological torture, threats of physical torture, and sexual threats.”

Earlier, Human Rights Watch reported on the 8th of February, citing a credible source, that «during Niloofar Bayani’s trial, she interrupted the session and claimed they had tortured and forced confessions from her.”

Amnesty International also described the trial process of environmental activists in Iran as «unfair» in June of this year and stated that «these individuals have previously reported torture and mistreatment during their detention period.”

The spokesman of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced the verdicts of environmental activists who were arrested more than two years ago on charges of espionage by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to which these activists were sentenced to a total of 58 years in prison.

Following the issuance of final verdicts for the environmental activists and the confirmation of their conviction to lengthy prison sentences, the U.S. State Department responded.
