Bodies of Two Miners Trapped in Damghan Coal Mine Found After Six Days

Iranian media reported on Thursday, April 5, the discovery of the lifeless bodies of Milad Roshanai and Asghar Afzali, two miners trapped in tunnel 42 of the Tazareh coal mine in Damghan.
The CEO of East Alborz Coal Company, in an interview with journalists, confirmed the news and expressed condolences to the families of the two deceased workers, announcing the end of search operations after six days of efforts by 150 rescue workers.
According to officials of East Alborz Coal Company in Shahroud, both deceased workers were under 40 years old and were married.
The coal mine accident occurred around noon on March 31 during extraction work, following a sudden roof collapse in tunnel number 42 of the large Tazareh mine, one of the four mines operated by East Alborz Coal Company.
No information about the cause of the accident is yet available. However, Mohammad Taghi Goli, the general and revolutionary prosecutor of Damghan, announced the opening of a legal case related to the mentioned accident.
Every year, a large number of Iranian mine workers suffer accidents and even lose their lives due to non-compliance with safety measures, particularly by employers. This occurs even as only some of these incidents receive media coverage.
The responsible authorities of the Islamic Republic generally refrain from providing any reliable and clear statistics in this regard.
