“Arrest of Former Governor” of Khuzestan in Connection with “Economic Case”

IRNA reported on Thursday, the 14th of Esfand, the arrest of the “former” governor of Khuzestan in connection with an “economic case.”
In a brief report by IRNA, the name of this governor and details of his alleged charges were not mentioned.
However, in recent days, two members of the Iranian parliament had reported the opening of a case against Gholamreza Shariati, the “former” governor of Khuzestan.
Ahmad Naderi, Tehran’s representative in parliament, in a tweet described Shariati’s charge as “exerting influence in the case of a major currency offender and owner of Haft Tappeh in the judicial system” and reported seeing him in the hallways of the prosecution office and behind the door of the interrogation room.
Simultaneously, Nezam-al-Din Mousavi, another member of the Iranian parliament, in a similar tweet while announcing the beginning of investigation into the charges against the former governor of Khuzestan, stated the most important demand as “formal announcement of removal of the unqualified owner of Haft Tappeh company.”
The appointment of Gholamreza Shariati, former governor of Khuzestan, as head of the National Organization for Standardization of Iran in the final days of Bahman this year led to numerous reactions.
Since the 1979 Revolution, Khuzestan Province has had 15 governors. In recent months, following Gholamreza Shariati’s appointment as head of the Standards Organization, Ghasem Soleimani Dashtaki was appointed as governor of the province.
Previously, in December, following flooding and waterlogging in various parts of Khuzestan, the head of the water authority of Imam Khomeini Port was arrested due to “negligence.”
