John Kerry Responds to Javad Zarif’s Claims: Maybe He Got Emotional; I’ve Seen Him Get Very Emotional Before

John Kerry, former U.S. Secretary of State under Barack Obama, once again denied providing information to Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif about Israel’s covert attacks in Syria.
Mr. Kerry made this statement on Wednesday, April 12, during a hearing before the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs in response to questions from Scott Perry, a Republican representative from Pennsylvania, and Lee Zeldin, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York.
Previously, Javad Zarif, in an audio file leaked to the media, had claimed that John Kerry told him that Israel attacked Iranian positions in Syria more than 200 times; while Zarif claimed he was unaware of these attacks.
During this session, in response to Scott Perry’s question asking whether Javad Zarif was “lying,” John Kerry said: “Maybe he got confused or made a mistake.”
Mr. Kerry explained that Javad Zarif may have wanted to say that he was not aware of the matter and may have been trying to emphasize this point, and apparently he had “gotten emotional.”
John Kerry, who currently leads the Biden administration’s efforts on combating climate change, said he had previously seen Javad Zarif when he had become very emotional, and cannot say with certainty why he made such a statement.
John Kerry also said he recalls that after his term as U.S. Secretary of State and during the Trump administration, he met with Mr. Zarif four times but never had a phone conversation with him, and no messages were exchanged between them.
