Annual Gender Gap Report; Iran Ranked 150th Alongside Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan

The World Economic Forum has announced in its annual gender gap report that the spread of the deadly coronavirus has deepened the gender gap worldwide, with women being more exposed to unemployment than men and forced to stay home to care for children.

The report emphasizes that gender equality will not be achieved for another 136 years; this is while the international institution’s report from last year mentioned this figure to be around one hundred years.

According to this study, progress in gender equality in politics in Western countries will be achieved in a 52-year process. However, this period will take more than 142 years for North African and Middle Eastern countries.

In the gender gap report, which annually examines fields related to access to education, health, political empowerment, and economic opportunities in 156 countries worldwide, Iran is ranked 150th in this table, ahead of Congo, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan, while Iceland, Finland, and Norway are respectively among the countries with the smallest gender gap between men and women.
