Heroin Smuggling Case from Iran; Two New Arrests in Germany

The proceedings of a heroin smuggling case involving a truck continue in the Koblenz court in western Germany. Four people are under investigation in connection with an international drug trafficking ring by German judicial authorities. The final destination of the substances is Belgium or the Netherlands.

The Koblenz Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Berlin Customs Investigation Office have announced that two additional suspects in the smuggling case of one ton of heroin have been arrested. Police found irrefutable evidence of the man’s involvement in the smuggling operation during a search of the home of a 38-year-old man in Münster in western Germany, and another suspect was apprehended by Romanian authorities.

Both suspects are currently in the custody of the Koblenz Public Prosecutor’s Office and are under interrogation.

The investigation of this international case is being handled by the Investigation Division of the Berlin-Brandenburg Customs Administration; a case that began in November 2019 when a truck carrying 1,100 kilograms of heroin was tracked. This shipment had been smuggled from Iran to Europe with the cooperation of an international drug trafficking ring.

The Koblenz court began the trial of two other men in this connection on December 22.

The truck in question was originally discovered during border and customs controls in Kazakhstan, and the heroin was seized there. However, half a kilogram of it remained in the truck and was transported to Germany.

According to a spokesman for the Koblenz Public Prosecutor’s Office, neither of the two suspects has provided any information about the details of the matter during interrogations so far. The spokesman for the Berlin-Brandenburg Customs Investigation Office states: “Initially, it was thought that Germany was merely a transit route to deliver the substances to their final destination, namely Belgium or the Netherlands, but the smugglers suddenly stopped in Andernach and did not continue their journey.”

The city of Andernach in western Germany in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate is located on routes leading to Belgium and the Netherlands.
