Milad Nazari and Sayed Shabbir Hosseini Nik, student activists, have been sentenced by the Criminal Court 2 of Shahroud County to a total of 72 lashes. According to Mohammad Ali Kamfirouzi, the lawyer for these two student activists, this sentence became final in recent days while “after approximately 3 years, no legal notification of charges has been issued and there is no available information about the instances of lies considered by the court”.
According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Human Rights Activists in Iran group, Milad Nazari and Sayed Shabbir Hosseini Nik, student activists, have been sentenced to lashing by the Criminal Court 2 of Shahroud County.
According to this sentence issued on the 29th of Dey 1399 by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court 2 of Shahroud County, these two student activists were each sentenced to 36 lashes for the charge of “participation in spreading lies with intent to disturb public opinion through the Islamic Association channel of Shahroud University of Technology”.
Mohammad Ali Kamfirouzi, the lawyer for these two student activists, announced the finalization of this sentence in recent days through a post on his personal page and said: “Even after 2-3 years have passed, a legal notification of charges has not been issued to my clients and we are unaware of the instances of lies considered by the court and this court has no jurisdiction to hear the crime of spreading lies (which according to Article 2 of the Law on Political Crimes, falls under the jurisdiction of Criminal Court 1 with the presence of a jury). Additionally, the judge had no jurisdiction to hear and issue a ruling due to previous substantive comments about this case. It is regrettable that despite raising all objections and defenses by us, such an illegal and severe sentence is issued on the pretext of publishing a few posts in a student channel for 2 young 25-year-olds and our follow-ups and protests have not resulted in anything and this illegal ruling has become final. In my opinion, such baseless case fabrications against student activists by the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence Organization and illegal actions by some judges clearly demonstrate the current situation of security and judicial authorities”.
According to this lawyer, this sentence was issued due to the publication of several critical posts in a student Telegram channel while lashing is not among the punishments for the crime of spreading false information online.
Milad Nazari is 25 years old, Sayed Shabbir Hosseini Nik is 26 years old, and both are students at Shahroud University of Technology.
