Official death toll from coronavirus in Iran approaches 80,000

With the death of 208 coronavirus patients in Iran in the past 24 hours, the total number of deaths from this disease in the country has reached 79,056.

Domestic Iranian media reported on Tuesday, citing the public relations of the Ministry of Health, that in the past day, 11,873 new coronavirus patients were identified in the country, of which 1,713 people were hospitalized.

Accordingly, the total number of coronavirus patients in the country has reached 2,855,396 people.

While the Iranian Ministry of Health refrains from providing detailed statistics, it provides daily statistics on coronavirus infections and deaths to the media, statistics about the accuracy of which independent sources have doubts.

According to the Ministry of Health announcement, so far 2,675,594 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine and 470,468 people have also received the second dose, and the total number of vaccines injected in the country has reached 3,146,062 doses.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 8 red-status cities and 233 orange-status cities, and based on the decisions of the National Coronavirus Response Headquarters, travel from and to cities with red and orange status is prohibited. Also, 207 cities are in yellow status.
